A transition is the shift from one activity, location, or routine to another — for example, moving from playtime to dinner or from home to school. Transitions are often difficult for children with autism because they disrupt predictability and require flexible thinking. In ABA, transitions are taught explicitly using visual schedules, countdowns, first-then language, and reinforcement for cooperation. Strong transition skills support independence at home, in school, and in the community, and they make daily life calmer for the whole family.
